Andy Ryan on Larne and his hopes for the new season

You joined Larne 18 months ago, and it has a been really successful time for you with lots of goals and league titles. Just how proud are you of your achievements at the club so far?

I have loved my time at the club so far. You know, if I had a vision of how it would go, it’s probably gone just as I imagined or how I would have liked it to go. I settled in pretty quickly over there, and that’s credit to the boys, the staff, and the people around the place—they made me feel welcome. I’ve just taken that onto the pitch and enjoyed my football.

What was the biggest change from playing in Scotland taking over to Northern Ireland?

To be honest, it’s pretty similar. It is a similar style of football—fast and aggressive. I think that’s part of the reason why I fit in so quickly over there because it’s pretty similar to how it is over here.

With Larne, you are playing in European football at the moment, how exciting is that to be involved in?

It is very exciting to play against European opposition. I believe that it is something that can help us attract more players to come to the league. I was not sure what to expect when I went over, but I was pleasantly surprised, obviously, with the added incentive of European football. Last year was an experience, so hopefully, we can learn from that as continue to play in the Conference League qualifiers.

Last question, Andy, you have scored lots of goals so far. Do you set yourself targets for goals, or do you just take every week as it comes? Because you’re always finding a way to be among the goals.

I do set myself targets, but I keep them close to my chest in case I don’t reach them. I do not want to put my neck on the line, so I keep them to myself. But, you know, I do have little targets that I set for myself, and I try to push myself to hit them every year. Hopefully, this will be another successful season for the club and for myself personally too.
