Wayne Rooney reveals Celtic transfer regret

Wayne Rooney is Manchester United’s all time record goalscorer with 253 goals in 559 games.

As a player at Old Trafford, he secured 5 Premier League titles, an FA Cup, three League Cups, the 2008 Champions League, the Europa League, and a Club World Cup during his time at Manchester United. In 2010, he was honored as the PFA Player of the Year, won the Young Player of the Year award twice, and was included in the PFA Team of the Year on three occasions.

Despite all of that success and playing for boyhood club Everton in two spells, the Premier League legend still wishes he had the opportunity to play for Celtic during his playing career.

Speaking to Celtic TV before a team of United and Celtic legends faced off on Saturday in a match raising over £1m for the Manchester United Foundation, Rooney stated:

“It’s [Celtic] always been a team I’ve always followed and obviously wanting to win.

“So, yeah, unfortunately I didn’t get the opportunity. I would have liked to at some point try and play for Celtic, but it didn’t work out, didn’t have that chance. So, yeah, it’s always a club I always look out for and want to do well.”
