It may only be five games into the SPFL Premiership season but Kasper Schmeichel has already equalled a longstanding Celtic record.
Danish international Schmeichel kept a fifth clean sheet in succession as Celtic secured a 2-0 victory against Hearts today.
Five successive clean sheets to start a league season is a feat that has not been achieved by a Celtic goalkeeper since 1906-07. A mere 118 years ago.
Joe Hart was expected to be a tough player to replace when he departed Brendan Rodgers’ side in the summer but by securing another Premier League winner in Schmeichel, the position appears to be in safe hands.
Victory today for Celtic was also a fifth consecutive win in the Scottish Premiership to see the club sit at the summit of the league table – level on points with Jimmy Thelin’s Aberdeen side.
Next up for The Hoops is UEFA Champions League action against Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday evening.
