As the 2024/25 Scottish football season draws to an exciting close, we caught up with Tino, host of The Celtic Exchange podcast, to get his thoughts on some of the defining moments of his time following Celtic, Brendan Rodgers’ second spell in charge, and the Hoops’ chances ahead of the upcoming Scottish Cup final.
With thousands tuning in to The Celtic Exchange every week, Tino’s voice is a familiar one among the Celtic faithful.
You’ve followed Celtic for decades through the good times and the tough times. What have been your personal highlights as a fan?
“There’s been so many highlights over the years. Semi-recent successes like Tom Rogic’s Scottish Cup winner in the “Invincible” season, or the electric 3-0 win over Rangers under the lights in February during Ange’s first season, really stand out. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink’s late header in the 2-1 win over Rangers during the “Title For Tommy” season was another special moment.
“But for me, the standout has to be Stopping The Ten in May 1998. The tension, the years without success – all of that was lifted in one game thanks to Henrik Larsson and Harald Brattbakk. That day was monumental for the club and the fans.
“Is it too soon to put James Forrest’s goal on Saturday down as a highlight…”
How do you reflect on Brendan Rodgers’ second spell at Celtic Park so far?
“Four domestic trophies out of five so far, and the chance of a fifth – and a Treble – this weekend. What more could you ask for? On top of that, we’ve seen genuine progress in Europe this season. That’s exactly why the club brought Brendan Rodgers back.
“He’s a phenomenal manager, and in my view, we’re very lucky to have him at the club again. I’d love to see him extend his stay beyond the end of next season – he’s building something strong here.”
What are your thoughts ahead of the Scottish Cup Final against Aberdeen?
“There’s always the chance for an underdog to pull off a shock in a one-off game – that’s the beauty of football. But Aberdeen are such overwhelming underdogs that it’s hard to see anything other than a Celtic win.
“We’ve hit form at exactly the right time, and I think – and hope – we’ll be seeing green and white ribbons on the cup for the third season in a row. A James Forrest goal in the final would be the perfect way to round off the campaign.”
