Celtic have tonight announced the appointment of Wilfried Nancy as their new manager on a two-and-a-half-year contract, with the 48-year-old set to take up the role on December 4, 2025.
Nancy arrives from MLS side Columbus Crew, where he won the MLS Cup and Leagues Cup and was named MLS Coach of the Year in 2024. He also claimed the Canadian Championship with CF Montreal in 2021.
Speaking on his appointment, Nancy said: “I am so happy to be named Celtic Manager, it is a massive honour for myself and my family.” He paid tribute to interim bosses Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney, adding: “The job they have done has been fantastic… They have my total respect and my total gratitude.”
Looking ahead, he added: “My number one aim will be simple to give our fans a strong, exciting, attacking, winning football team they can be so proud of.”
Chairman Peter Lawwell welcomed the new manager, saying: “We are really pleased to welcome Wilfried to Celtic. He is a Manager with a record which demonstrates the kind of football which we know Celtic supporters love to see.” He also thanked the interim staff for “stabilising the team and restoring a real level of confidence.”
Chief Executive Michael Nicholson revealed Nancy had been the club’s top choice, stating: “He was our number one candidate when we began the process of appointing a new Manager and we are delighted that he has agreed to join the club.”
Principal shareholder Dermot Desmond added: “In appointing Wilfried to Celtic, we believe we have brought a hugely talented Manager to the club… Everyone at the club will unite strongly behind Wilfried as we move forward.”
Nancy now takes over at Celtic with expectations high as the club looks to build on recent momentum gained under interim manager Martin O’Neill at home and in Europe.
